To keep your horse cantering, don't keep kicking, but fan your legs; it will encourage him/her to move forward! :)

for the trotting/canter try sitting a few strides and keep your hands up but don't pull back. kick until he/she canters.. if it fails.. transition back down to a walk. and try again. dont use your legs either when cantering.. youll plop right out of your seat and could end up falling off. if my advice is not really useful.. lol sorry :) good luck
