So if you can't dance to something, it's self-indulgence?

"man, this bloke is making a compelling argument about intellectual property law, meanwhile mad haters are trying to demonstrate their scene cred?"LOL, props dude

dear mr maxpounder,i must say i love this video, not only is it a nice history of the amen break with nice examples of the usage, the conclusion at the end is very right-on and hard 'news' for everybody who tries to bring some innovation into music.Forget the negative comments, when so much knowledge is being given, people feel a bit numb and are eagerly waitin to tell their own story.long live the amen break; after ten years of listenin to him, still lovin it!

man, this bloke is making a compelling argument about intellectual property law, meanwhile mad haters are trying to demonstrate their scene cred? embrace the politics yall - sampling is great and the suits are trying to fuck up a great tradition, not of the amen break in particular but sampling in general.

you are buying the rights to the recording, not the "rhythm" (e.g. if you went and played the drum parts yourself for all the metallica songs in existence for your metal band, Lars could not sue you. much as i'm sure he'd like to. :p)
agent139 (December 31, 1969 at 5:59 pm)
no, you really can't. all recordings (that specific recording) are copyright, and you can copyright the lyrics, but an actual rhythm? no. or chord progression? no. i've done a fair amount of research into copyright law- many murky gray areas to be sure but this one is crystal clear.

This break beat is a rip off of Tommy Roe's songSweet Pea. Check it out and post what you think. This song came out in '65. This was four years before The Winstons' Amen Brother which is just a ripoff medley of Curtis Mayfield and The Impressions.
