Thank you for your researched and reasonable response. Every culture has it's triumphs and its failures. History is an interesting subject, however, we are in the modern age. The general trend of my opinion is as follows. Religion and government should be separate and religion should not interfere with science. I don't blame people for being fundamentalists, because they were brainwashed in infancy.I'm glad this didn't turn into one of those internet fist fights because they are so bloody! Peace

SomeBSU- I mean even by your own admission of the undeniable cultural expansion sponsored by the Islamic Empires across the world (the Caliphates, The Persians, The Moghuls) you can deduce that it must not be Islam itself that is oppressing cultural expansion.In these cases it was their love of Islam and the Creator that led them to search for answers. They were the people of Ihsan- They lived their lives by the 'mantra' that God loves Beauty and He loves those who make beauty.

SomeBSU- It is true that governments running Muslim countries today are doing such things & it is apalling!We must recognize that these 'fundamentalists' don't represent a single fundamental aspect of Islam. It is not Islam to persecute and massacre modernists. Islam allows science to flourish. It's the dictators, corrupt governments that have been installed & supported by our lovely 'secular' friends here in the west coupled w/ post-colonialsm that is to blame. Instability there = Power here

On a general note regarding religion. There are several religions in the world. Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism all have hundreds of millions of followers. Those religions contain utterly different theologies. In the vast majority of cases, one's religion is determined by one's culture and/or geographical location. Most people R indoctrinated in their infancy. They do not read, think, analyze, bust their brains, etc to reach faith; therefore their faith is just brainwashing.

fyzawyza-I will concede your points about the West interfering in foreign countries and the Catholic Church having been anti-scientific.But in Islamic countries scientists are heavily censored and monitored today.And, after a relatively brief period of cultural expansion and flourishing in the Arabic and Persian societies, the fundamentalists murdered about 700,000 people they thought were thinking a little too much in one of Islam's many persecutions and massacres of modernists/moderates

Also, science is allowed to operate freely in the West. In that evidence, logic, common sense are major parts of science, religious dictatorships such as Iran and Saudi Arabia cannot tolerate true science. They also do not tolerate free logical analysis of other topics either. In essence, I'm accusing fundamentalism, including Islam, of being a major stumbling block to both civilization, modernization, freedom, democracy, and science. Fundamentalism is an old and dysfunctional pox on humanity.
