the saidi rhythm comes from the saidi region of egypt (upper egypt) and there are 3 sorts of dance for this rhythm .1st with the assaya (cane), then the simple saidi (as shown at the video), and then there is also the tahteb which is a duet cane dance .. like a mans battle .... reda was the first one to portray these dances on stage for the egyptian publice at the end of the 50's

saiidi is the name of a dance rhythm. it is generally heard in the music to which dancers dance "raks assaya" or cane dance. The dancers in this video are from the Reda Troupe in Egypt. Mahmoud Reda is well known for creating beautiful folkloric choreographies like this.

Why does this Saidi dance look so different from the ones I see on youtube? They're not holding any canes...and what is the difference between Saidi and Assaya? I love this video..everything about it.
