to all those wondering about theremin functionality and who are too lazy to look on wikipedia, this is how it works (at least on the one i played; there are probably variations). the distance of the hand to the vertical antenna determines pitch. the closer you are the higher it goes. the loop shaped one is a kinda volume bypass - putting your hand close enough will kill the sound as long as you leave it there. this is for changing between pitches when you dont wanna hit every note in between

it's a theremin, the metal loop is a volume antenna, if your hand is in it you get no sound, as you pull farther away it gets louder, the other antenna is pitch, the closer your hand is to it, the higher the pitch, the farther, the lower.
