Thanks for the correction - I can't even spell "Guinness" right - the last time I read that word, it was on a bottle, and I was having a great time...(hiccup)

Incorrect. Gen. Yeager retired in 1975. Nothing dubious about USAF Cmdr. Knight, who confirmed that "Miss Bud" exeeded transonic speed at sea level, nor the radar and personnel of Edwards AFB, California. The run was done on the airfield. It happened. But no doubt, Mr. Noble's SSC cars are better engineered and financed than any American competitor since the Thrust II in 1982and will continue to dominate for the forseeable future. You Brits should be very proud of that damn thing...

I have heard about planes during ww2 that desinegrated in steep dive, and they did not know why at that time(?). But what happened to the Spitfire?

The Budweiser Rocket didn't actually produce a sonic boom - this is the main reason that no-one believes the claims. Speed was recorded very dubiously from a distant aircraft tracking radar station. The only evidence is from Chuck Yeager who, on seeing the high speed photos of the rear wheels lifting off the ground, stated 'it must be the shockwaves doing it." That's it. Oh, and by the way, a British Spitfire was the first aircraft through the sound barrier too....

110.000 hp! Using 18 liters per second with max afterburner.

The Budweiser Rocket is in every Guinness-book I have had, as an unofficial record, listed together with the rest of the official records.
