I'm Changing My Name to Chrysler, performed by Arlo Guthrie, lyrics by Tom Paxton. "Corporate welfare-the enormous and myriad subsidies, bailouts, giveaways, tax loopholes, debt revocations, loan guarantees, discounted insurance and other benefits conferred by government on business-is a function of political corruption. Corporate welfare programs siphon funds from appropriate public investments, subsidize companies ripping minerals from federal lands, enable pharmaceutical companies to gouge consumers, perpetuate anti-competitive oligopolistic markets, injure our national security, and weaken our democracy." - Ralph Nader in "Cutting Corporate Welfare." http://www.thirdworldtraveler....

The Amtrak cartoon makes no sense in this video, as in that it is a public body.

This would be a Hell of a lot funnier if it weren't true, once again.

This is correct. If Fannie Mae had remained a public entity, it would never have gotten so efficient at packaging mortgages for low income households and subprime borrowers. Fannie Mae would have been a economic failure long ago and gone bankrupt.Instead privatization allowed it to get somewhat good at what it did so that it could fail so spectacularly. Of course, it could also be incomplete privatization. I bet Dems had something to do with that.

I appreciate the aside to Tom. Who could mistake the style. Great rendering both here and on the Fannie Mae Version. Thanks I needed this.

Nixon, actually. The release of Fannie Mae from government control and the creation of Freddie Mac are both on him. Also the failure of the American Labour movement to make sure wages keep rising is a big part of it, because it means that the only way to ensure economic growth is through borrowing.Roosevelt and arguably LBJ do bear some responsibility for propagating the myth that people are entitled to home ownership, but it mostly comes down to Nixon and Republican anti-labour elements.

Fannie Mae is the democrat party's Frankenstein monster this time.

This is great. I heard the song today and was glad to see it posted here. It's just as true or truer today as it was 25 years ago.
