thats crazy all those tricks when you grab the bar with your stomach look like they kill lolas a gymnast im glad that the bars were moved farther apart lol

this is crazy i cant believe it the 80 is were you see it really evolve and become huge skills come out. some of those mounts rocked and as it gets farther along the dismounts get cooler and cooler

The greater distance between the bars is to allow for tougher release skills. I think gymnastics is harder today than in the past. However, I hate the new system b/c it puts so much emphasis on handstands instead of release skills. I truly believe Nadia is the best. Although some of her moves may be considered basic now, they were very risky at the time. Not only that, the Comaneci release skill on bars is still popular even today. Pretty impressive considering she used it over 30 years ago.

Beautiful! Thank you for putting this together! Difficulty alone just doesn't do that much for me, I much prefer the 60's and 70's routines to today's work. I think today gymnasts are too focused on doing things that take much more skill than creativity, but maybe I'm just old, haha! |
