Beautiful use of THE quinticential "perfect" musical form.

This swings!!.....So; you had the nerve to write a fugue....eh?
IsaacBickerstaffEsq (December 31, 1969 at 5:59 pm)
"Wrong!"Indeed; and my honor to be corrected by you, Sir.

Wrong! The soprano was indeed Libby Benson-Guy. The mezzo was Patricia Rideout, the tenor Gordon and the bass Edgar Murdoch. I was the latter and since this was the world premiere I am pretty certain of my facts. The string quartet was the Toronto String Quartet.Edgar Murdoch

Correction: The original world premiere was aired on CBCTV in 1961. The singers were Libby Benson-Guy, soprano, Patricia Rideout, mezzo, Gordon Wry, tenor and Edgar Murdoch, bass, all from Toronto. The string quartet was the Toronto String Quartet. I was the bass singer so am pretty certain of my facts. Edgar Murdoch

It was a great surprise/pleasure to encounter the singer here!It seems like "so you want to write a fugue?" in silver jubilee album was recorded in NY in 1963. I'd never seen the video before but it's funnier to see it than just listening to it. Being a part of it must be more than that.

This is almost painfully amusing and incredibly impressive. Thanks for putting it up. (My favourite line is "You got the NERVE to write a fugue!")

Genius, the way one idea flows to the next is awesome. The double fugue is ingenious cos the second subject is a good subject line in itself.
