I agree with HouseOnSunset. Those "just because you disagree with me doesn't make me an idiot" comments are really annoying. Scarlett IS an idiot. THE WHOLE POINT of the movie is that she's a faded silent screen goddess who can't cope and doesn't fit in the real world.

I think you should re-watch the movie. She was playing the character perfectly. Sunset would not be what it is today if it wasn't for Gloria. She created the character in her own way. Norma Desmond is supposed to be overdone, She is supposed to be bigger than life. That is the point. I am sorry you find her performance not to your taste, but I adore her and this film. There is a book called "Spotlight on Sunset Boulevard" which everyone who loves this movie should read.

I agree, the character is handled much better in the musical... As for her mad scene in the stage show, it was supposed to be "bigger," since the movie version just wouldn't wor on stage.
