I didn't say it was better...i just stated that someone with a deeper knowledge might have a different opinion and/or appreciation than someone else who is not knowledgeable in that area. The person with the "ear" might know how difficult it is to put some things together versus something else that just sounds "good". IF something is hard to do musically and sounds good, I get more excited than just hearing something your average harmony that any decent singing group can do

"a person who is a musician might be able to hear"i get that a lot of people might not get just how hard it is to sing stuff like this, but anyone can appreciate it, no matter what they know. anyway, just because something is harder or more complicated doesn't mean it's better.

There are harmonies they are using that most non-musicians would not notice greatly. And some types of music do require effort from the listener. Anyone can listen to Bach's B minor mass performed well and say "Gee, that's beautiful," but they have only the general effect on their ears most of the time. Their ears aren't used to dealing with fugal writing, and their love of the music will increase as they get used to it. You have to put effort as a listener for some music.

No, you dont have to be a musician to appreciate music. But there are things that a person who is a musician might be able to hear and understand that someone who doesnt necessarily know music on that level may understand. To a person that just likes music they may not be able to differentiate between harmonies that are more difficult than something easier. To them, it would just be a harmony...however if you understand the depths of music you might have a different type of appreciation

"An untrained musical ear cannot hear the chords that these guys pumped out"hahah, get out of here. anyone can hear how great it is, don't climb on your high horse trying to prove a point. i just got back from seeing their show at the festival hall in london and it was nothing short of incredible. you don't have to be a musician to appreciate music.

Wow! Absolutely wonderful.

the difference between Boyz II Men and These guys, is that you can tell that these guys had formal music training. An untrained musical ear cannot hear the chords that these guys pumped out. Boyz II Men is good, but I mean, these guys. These guys have better arrangemnets (chord structure arrangements etc)These guys are Seventh Day Adventists, and given that, they sing almost all accapella.
