It was, and it's been covered by a number of artists, most recently Seal. A lot of disco songs are covers of old soul songs. "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" was sung by Nina Simone, though maybe not orginally.

Don't think that another more thrilling disco song as this Knock On Wood exists in the world. I am a huge listener of all kinds of music. And, also a suprise to find this beautiful woman with most subtle moves and expressions do a "fantastic grinding and shaking, almost like tantalizing. " The dance and song below is as sublime as it is dramatic in the video, below, please check it out and support it, believe you'll want it to end!watch?v=9jQmgcsRE44

WOW her outfit knocks me out... but I think this song was originally by Eddie Floyd, a soul singer from the 60s.
