Isn't this song just incredible... Andy Stewart is so underestimated.. What a beautiful voice, singing those amazing words with sauch passion..I also rememjber this from well over 40 years ago. Still sounds just as majestic even in the harsh light of 2009

Not to mention, to me this song always makes me think of a British Empire Scot... Dying from Belgium (Waterloo) to India (Seringpatim), in both places where Highland regiments distinguished themselves... Not Culloden... Like Frenchmen or Poles, Scots seem to best distinguish themselves outside their homeland.

Centuries ago, there was no Britain, only the separate nations - so you therefore need to differentiate between them. Besides - you will probably find Scottish troops fought on either side - as a mechanism for settling scores.
